This website is intended to be distributed to horse owners by veterinary surgeons so that a greater understanding of some of the difficulties associated with sarcoids can be more widely understood.
The information contained herein is, however, the opinion solely of the author. Some of the information described here may be contentious and there may be some areas of considerable disagreement between individual veterinary surgeons, research workers and horse owners.
Many vets will have their own opinions on various aspects discussed in this booklet based upon their own experiences and ads would be the case in all biological systems there is bound to be variation in the case types presented to different veterinarians. Owners should be prepared to accept the differences and to understand why there could be differences. However, the opinions here are the result of the authors experience with many thousands of cases over many years.
Although there are some “rules” that sarcoids seem to follow, the disease is entirely unpredictable. Indeed it is said that “the only predictable thing about the sarcoid is that it is unpredictable”.
